Another study reports the prevalence of a strategy of self-cannibalization, the liquidation of assets to generate cash to cover liabilities and thereby forestall the onset of bankruptcy proceedings. This strategy is sometimes called by euphemism, asset pruning, retrenchment and downsizing.
