L'état de mal asthmatique est un état grave qui ne doit pas être confondu avec un banal accès d'asthme. Il se caractérise par la durée de la crise sans aucune rémission au-delà de trois jours, la résistance à toutes les thérapeutiques et par des signes indiquant que la vie même du patient est en danger.
