Partie supérieure d'un tourbillon polaire qui, parce qu'elle se trouve dans la stratosphère, présente des caractéristiques différentes de la partie inférieure qui, elle, se trouve dans la troposphère.

OBS

Ce sont surtout les vents d'ouest (westerlies), qui soufflent à la hauteur de la stratosphère polaire, qui font la différence entre le tourbillon stratosphérique et le tourbillon troposphérique.
