The Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) provides improved measurements of the temperature and moisture profiles in the atmosphere. GRAS, le récepteur du système mondial de navigation par satellite destiné au sondage de l'atmosphère, est un instrument inédit en cours de réalisation par l'Agence spatiale européenne et destiné à être embarqué sur les satellites EPS d'EUMETSAT. Il recevra des signaux radios émis par des satellites de navigation, après un trajet tangentiel dans l'atmosphère. Un traitement de la dérive Doppler de la fréquence des signaux reçus permettra d'établir des profils de température et d'humidité, d'une grande précision et d'une résolution verticale élevée, en assurant une couverture globale.
