Il faut enfin souligner que les calcaires, même les plus compacts, ne sont jamais rigoureusement purs. Leur désagrégation et leur altération superficielle laissent toujours des «formations résiduelles» plus ou moins sableuses, mais surtout argileuses, fréquemment riches en oxydes de fer, ce qui leur donne une teinte jaune dans les pays humides (terra fusca) [...]

La terra fusca primaire proviendrait d'une évolution en climat tropical humide (oxydes de fer libres non rubéfiés).
