Theoretical bias is another way of dealing with the multiplicity of inductive conclusions. Instead of considering all predicate-calculus sentences as potential conclusions, we can restrict our candidates to formulas with a particular vocabulary (conceptual bias) or a particular logical form (logical bias). Conceptual bias is an example of an acceptability condition for inductive conclusions. The idea is to lessen the number of acceptable conclusions by considering only those sentences that can be written in terms of a fixed vocabulary (called the basis set). Logical bias is another way of limiting the range of possible conclusions. For example, we can restrict our attention to conjunctive definitions; i.e., bidirectional implications in which one side mentions the concept being defined and the other side is a conjunction of atoms. 1, record 1, English, - theoretical%20bias
