The cylinder machine separates kernels on the basis of length and removes short material from longer material. It consists of a series of long round cylinders stacked in tiers. The inner surface of each cylinder has thousands of small precise indents which act as cups to lift kernels of specific length. Tamisage pour séparer les impuretés plus grosses ou plus fines que le blé. Le tamisage est complété par une aspiration des débris légers et des poussières. Élimination des débris métalliques par un appareil magnétique. Triage des graines pour séparer les petites graines par un trieur cylindrique ou un séparateur à disques alvéolés. Lavage rapide et essorage. Les pierres tombent au fond, les poussières et les débris légers surnagent (grains charançonnés, paillons ...). Séchage dans un courant d'air chaud pour amener le blé à 16 % d'humidité, favorable au broyage. Épointage (pour enlever les poussières collées aux poils radiculaires et dans le sillon) par projection des grains sur une surface dure et rugueuse.
