Bien que quatre os de l'arrière-pied soient impliqués dans cette procédure chirurgicale, le nom de triple arthrodèse utilisé par les Anglo-Saxons fait référence aux trois plans (coronal, sagittal et transversal) dans laquelle la correction de l'arrière-pied est possible.
