The vacuum system is usually operated at a boiler pressure below atmospheric. The vacuum pump must, therefore, pull the noncondensables from the piping and radiators for discharge to atmosphere.

(...) il existe des installations dites à vapeur sous vide dans lesquelles on réalise par pompage une pression inférieure à la pression atmosphérique. L'eau existe alors à l'état de vapeur dans le générateur et jusqu'à la sortie des corps de chauffe à une température inférieure à 100°C, et d'ailleurs variable avec la dépression réalisée, ce qui permet le réglage de la quantité de chaleur émise par les surfaces de chauffe.
