CIBC introduced "one-time amendments" to its RSP [Restructuring Support Program], effective September 1, 1999. It established working notice period payouts and enhanced severance to employees in Canada who were given notice of job elimination as a result of the restructuring.

Un employeur peut également satisfaire à ses obligations en matière de préavis en combinant un préavis de cessation d’emploi et une indemnité de licenciement tenant lieu de préavis. Dans ce cas, la somme du nombre de semaines prévu dans le préavis et du nombre de semaines de l’indemnité de licenciement doit correspondre à la durée de la période de préavis (et à l’indemnité de cessation d’emploi, s’il y a lieu) à laquelle un employé a droit.
