The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) has established International Trade Centres (ITCs) across the country to support the exporting efforts of Canadian firms. The centres operate under the guidance of DFAIT and all have resident Trade Commissioners. They help companies determine whether or not they are ready to export; assist firms with marketing research and market planning; provide access to government programs designed to promote exports; and arrange for assistance from the Trade Development Division in Ottawa and trade officers abroad.

Le ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commerce international (MAECI) a établi des Centres du commerce international (CCI) un peu partout au pays pour aider les entreprises canadiennes en quête de marchés d'exportation. Ces centres relèvent du MAECI et sont tous dotés de délégués commerciaux. Ces centres aident les entreprises à établir si elles peuvent ou non exporter, à effectuer leurs études et leur planification des marchés, à avoir accès aux programmes gouvernementaux visant à promouvoir les exportations et à obtenir de l'aide de la Direction de l'expansion du commerce à Ottawa et des délégués commerciaux à l'étranger.

Technical cooperation organization whose mission is to support developing and transition economies, and particularly their business sectors, in their efforts to realize their full potential for developing exports and improving import operations with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable development. ITC deals specifically with the operational aspects of trade promotion and export development.

The International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO is the focal point in the United Nations system for technical cooperation with developing countries in trade promotion. ITC was created by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1964 and since 1968 has been operated jointly by GATT (now by the World Trade Organization) and the UN, the latter acting through the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
