The sport of yachting [now sailing] is included in the programme of the Olympic Games since 1896. ... One race per day in each event is held for four days. Spare days are then scheduled to allow the organizers the opportunity to catch up on any races postponed or abandoned because of poor weather. The final three races are held one per day after the scheduled spare days.
