Le conducteur doit alors appuyer sur un bouton-poussoir particulier (dit «de vigilance») pour marquer le fait qu’il est attentif. S’il ne le fait pas, la lampe jaune clignote sur son pupitre de conduite et, après quatre secondes, le freinage d’urgence du train se déclenche automatiquement. Il évite celui-ci par l’appui sur le bouton de vigilance et en effectuant lui-même le freinage que les indications du signal lui ont données.
