A polymer that reduces the amount of water needed to keep concrete mix fluid, thereby increasing its strength.

Les superplastifiants réducteurs d'eau (à base de naphtalène sulphonate ou de résine mélamine) assurent, par action électrostatique, une ouvrabilité correcte pendant un temps suffisant, lorsque le rapport E/C décroît. Ils conduisent à une défloculation des grains de ciment et restituent au ciment en suspension dans l'eau sa granularité propre. L'hydratation du ciment est plus complète et plus rapide et toute l'eau disponible participe à cette hydratation : la quantité d'eau nécessaire est donc réduite.
