Take for example the storm which occurred on February 2, 1976, known locally as the Groundhog Day Storm. According to the Atmospheric Environment Service this was a severe storm but it did not exceed the maximum recorded wind velocities for the region nor did it have associated with it the torrential rains that often cause flooding.
