A hollow vertical tube, rod, or pipe terminating in a perforated pointed shoe and fitted with a fine-mesh wire screen; connected with others in parallel to a drainage pump; driven into or beside an excavation to remove underground water, to lower the water level and thereby minimize flooding during construction, or to improve stability. 4, record 1, English, - wellpoint

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
4, record 1, French, - pointe%20filtrante
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
5, record 1, French, - pointe%20filtrante
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 OBS
6, record 1, French, - pointe%20filtrante

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Well-point [drainage] method. The term well point refers to the lower perforated end of a 2-in. or 2 1/2-in. pipe, commonly 40 in. long, that serves the double purpose of well casing and suction tube. The perforations are covered by a wire mesh. The well points are jetted into the ground at a spacing of 3 to 6 ft. 4, record 2, English, - well%20point
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Basically, a well point is a perforated and screened pipe, about 1 1/2 in. in diameter and a few or several feet in length. The well point is fixed to a riser pipe, also of the same diameter, and the whole is driven with or without jetting ... The individual riser pipes are attached to a header pipe or manifold that leads to a pump. 5, record 2, English, - well%20point

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A method of draining a water-bearing soil around an excavation to reduce the pumping required within it and to strengthen the ground. A tube about 2 in. diameter is sunk by jetting into the water-bearing soil. It is fitted with a close-mesh screen at the bottom, and connected through a header pipe to a suction pump at the top. Generally, a number of wellpoints are put down and connected to one header pipe. Wellpointing is not effective in fine-grained sand. 1, record 3, English, - wellpointing
