La sapotille a la taille et la forme d'un œuf. Son écorce rugueuse, grise ou brune, se pèle facilement. Sa chair est légèrement granuleuse comme celle de la poire. Elle est juteuse, sucrée et très parfumée. Sa saveur est comparée au miel ou à l'abricot. La sapotille se consomme crue, telle quelle, ou dans les salades de fruits.
