Factors such as material and fabrication constraints, damage tolerance, crush stress/strain response, seat-rail loading, and post crush integrity, which influenced the course of the design process are also presented. 2, record 14, English, - keel%20beam

Ablating materials are used on the surfaces of some reentry vehicles to absorb heat by removal of mass, thus blocking the transfer of heat to the rest of the vehicle and maintaining temperatures within design limits. Ablating materials absorb heat by increasing in temperature and changing in chemical or physical state. The heat is carried away from the surface by a loss of mass (liquid or vapor). Cooler falls result in increased sugar content and beet quality, but does so at the expense of root yield. In cooler periods, photosynthesis and sugar production continue in beets, but the cooler conditions are not as conducive to growth, and more of the sugar produced is stored in the roots as less is used in growth. In 1955, Barnes and Loutit first described graft versus host disease (GVHD) in mice. Simonsen introduced the term graft-versus-host reaction in 1958 to describe the direction of the immunological damage caused by introduction of immunologically competent cells into an immunocompromised host. In 1966, Billingham proposed 3 conditions required for the development of GVHD, as follows: (1) the graft must contain immunologically competent cells, (2) the host must possess important transplant alloantigens that are lacking in the donor graft so that the host appears foreign to the graft, and (3) the host itself must be incapable of mounting an effective immunological reaction against the graft. According to the accepted definition, the immunologic assault itself and its consequences are referred to as GVHD. 3, record 41, English, - graft%20versus%20host%20disease

The nitrogen monoxide radical. This peculiar radical derived from nitrogen (NO·) is produced by endothelial cells and plays a prime physiological role in the regulation of blood pressure. Oxidative stress can lead to dysfunctioning of endothelial cells, causing them to produce the nitrogen monoxide radical in excess. The radical may then react with oxygenated free radicals to form substances that are highly toxic to the organism: peroxynitric derivatives (HOONOH). 8, record 65, English, - oxidonitrogen%28%26%23183%3B%29

[The] wind scatterometer measures surface wind direction and strength. 5, record 93, English, - wind%20scatterometer

The purpose of the wind scatterometer is to obtain information on wind speed and direction at the sea surface. ... The wind scatterometer measures the echo power of a signal transmitted by the satellite and returned from the ocean surface. The echo power is affected by the surface wind conditions. Three antennae are used to obtain information about the wind at the ocean surface. Each antenna points in a different direction, and hence for a particular point on the ocean surface three echo power values, obtained from three different angles, are used to calculate the surface wind vectors. 6, record 93, English, - wind%20scatterometer
Record number: 93, Textual support number: 3 CONT
The wind scatterometer does not directly measure the wind. It measures the radar backscatter of the ocean's surface which is related to the wind via a geophysical model function. To measure the radar backscatter, the instrument transmits a pulse of RF energy and measures the backscattered power. 7, record 93, English, - wind%20scatterometer

There are several types of partial malfunctions and actions for each. If you have a semi-inversion, squid, cigarette roll or complete inversion with damage to the canopy or suspension lines, you must activate your reserve parachute. If you have a compare inversion with no damage to the canopy or suspension lines, do not activate your reserve parachute. If you have damaged suspension lines, blown section or gore, you must compare your rate of descent with your fellow jumpers. If you are falling faster than your fellow jumpers, you will activate your reserve parachute. If you are not falling faster than your fellow jumpers, you will activate your reserve parachute. If you are not falling faster, maintain what you have. 2, record 96, English, - partial%20malfunction

Partial malfunctions occur when the parachute deploys, but does not work properly. This creates a situation that does not allow you to land safely. Canopies that partially malfunction do not look "good" and tend to move violently. The following conditions may cause a partial malfunction: line over (a line goes over the canopy instead of straight down to the harness), entangled or broken lines, and holes, burns and/or rips in the canopy. The exact procedure to follow varies by drop zone, but genrally you will cut away the main canopy and open the reserve parachute. 3, record 96, English, - partial%20malfunction

1, record 96, French, - d%C3%A9faillance%20partielle
