[...] dans la nouvelle variante de la maladie de Creutzfeldt Jakob, on a pu mettre en évidence une structure particulière du gène de la Prp [protéine prion] associé à une plus grande susceptibilité à la maladie de Creutzfeldt Jakob. C'est ce que l'on appelle le polymorphisme au niveau du codon 129. Dans sa 129ème position du gène de la Prp, vous pouvez avoir soit un acide aminé qui s'appelle la méthionine, soit un acide aminé qui s'appelle la valine. Si vous héritez de votre père de la méthionine et de votre mère de la méthionine vous serez homozygote méthionine/méthionine. Si vous héritez de votre père et de votre mère de la valine, vous serez homozygote valine/valine, et si vous héritez de votre père de la méthionine et de votre mère la valine, vous serez hétérozygote méthionine/valine.
