The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) will allow fingerprints to be electronically recorded, transmitted and instantly verified against broader databases. It will also permit the RCMP to avoid future backlogs and modernize criminal record and fingerprint identification processes. The RTID Project is a five-year initiative, with the first year devoted to proposal evaluation and contract award, and the remaining four years for development and implementation.

Le Projet d'identification en temps réel (PITR) de la GRC (Gendarmerie royale du Canada) permettra d'enregistrer les empreintes digitales, de les transmettre et de les vérifier instantanément contre des bases de données plus importantes, et le tout, par voie électronique. Il permettra aussi à la GRC d'éviter les retards dans son travail à l'avenir et de moderniser les processus d'identification des casiers judiciaires et des empreintes digitales. Le PITR s'étend sur cinq ans. La première année sera consacrée à l'évaluation des propositions et à l'octroi d'un contrat, et les quatre autres, au développement et à la mise en œuvre du projet.
