The idea behind [integrity shells] is that a layer is added above the DOS command level, so that the shell "filters-through" any request to execute a program. Before executing the program, the anti-virus part of the shell will perform an on-line checksumming of the executable and compare it with the precomputed value. If the values do not agree, the execution of the program will not be commenced.
