In response to irritation caused by uric acid crystals, the skin covering the affected area rapidly becomes tight, inflamed, swollen, and red or purplish. These classical signs of inflammation, together with sudden and extreme pain ... strongly suggest an acute attack of gout.

OBS

goutte : Affection due à un trouble du métabolisme de l'acide urique, survenant presque exclusivement chez l'homme. Elle se manifeste par des crises d'arthrite aiguë localisée surtout à l'articulation du gros orteil, et par des dépôts d'urates (tophi) sous-cutanés, surtout périarticulaires. Le taux de l'acide urique du sang est augmenté (hyperuricémie).
