Parallèlement au triage mécanique, s'effectue aussi une «division chimique» de la substance sédimentaire. Cette division s'opère suivant un ordre déterminé de précipitations d'après le degré de solubilité en fonction du changement des particularités physico-géographiques du dépôt. L'ordre est le suivant : Les oxydes d'aluminium sont les moins mobiles; après eux suivent les oxydes de fer et de manganèse, la silice colloïdale et d'autres composés. Ils forment des accumulations séparées.
