A modification of electrodialysis in which a cell is divided into three sections by two membranes and electrodes are placed in the end sections; colloidal matter is concentrated at the sides and bottom of the middle section, and the liquid that floats to the top is drawn off. 3, record 1, English, - electrophoresis%20convection
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Electrodialysis may lead to local differences in concentration and density. Under the influence of gravity these density differences lead to large scale separation of sols of high and of low (often vanishingly low) concentrations. This process is called electrodecantation. 1, record 1, English, - electrophoresis%20convection

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 1, French, - %C3%A9lectrophor%C3%A8se%20de%20convection

Method for the large-scale purification of enzymes. The method involves placing a protein solution into a cell containing a number of semipermeable membranes. The pH of the solution is adjusted to the isoelectric point of the protein to be purified. A current is passed through the solution by two sloping electrodes. Because the required protein is at its isoelectric point it remains stationary in the electric field; all other proteins, being charged, will move either towards the cathode or the anode. This movement will cease when the migrating proteins meet the semipermeable membranes. The accumulation of protein at the membrane surface will cause an increase in density, thus it will move to the bottom of the cell. 2, record 2, English, - multimembrane%20electrodecantation

A method of concentrating latex by passing an electric current through the latex contained in a rectangular tank. The rubber particles move toward the anode and also tend to rise because of their lower specific gravity. The separation is facilitated by a large number of semi-permeable membranes fitted between the electrodes. 3, record 3, English, - electrodecantation
