The Environmental Monitoring Advisory Board for the Diavik Diamond Project was formed through the Environmental Agreement (EA), March 8, 2000. It was incorporated under the Societies Act on January 30, 2001. The Board’s mission is: To monitor and provide guidance to Diavik and regulators to ensure that the Diavik Diamond Mine is developed, operated and reclaimed in a manner that: Protects the environment; Advocates for Aboriginal Involvement; Respects the public interest; Protects the way of life and well-being of Affected Aboriginal Communities.

Conseil créé dans le cadre d’un accord en matière d’environnement de la mine de diamants Diavik. Le Conseil est financé jusqu’à la remise en état finale du site du projet. Le rôle du Conseil est celui d’un «chien de garde» indépendant visant à protéger la région du lac de Gras autour du projet minier Diavik en collaborant avec les responsables du projet Diavik, les organismes de réglementation et les groupes autochtones et à aider toutes les parties à mettre en œuvre l’accord en matière d’environnement. Les décisions du Conseil concernant les initiatives de surveillance et de gestion sont prises d’un commun accord.
