There are many types of "bomb tests". This particular one deals with the evaluation of "energy content" of vegetable oils; unfortunately, the term "bomb test" remains questionable here.

Essai déterminant la "capacité calorifique" d'un combustible. Celui-ci est d'abord pesé, puis introduit dans une enceinte étanche de taille réduite (volume d'environ 1 litre) où se trouve installée une bougie. Après avoir introduit de l'oxygène pur sous pression, on provoque l'allumage de la mèche. Une explosion s'ensuit, suivie d'une combustion totale.
