[...] il est possible d'étudier la répartition de certains éléments en utilisant les particules émises en cours d'irradiation à partir de ces éléments. La méthode dite des traces nucléaires, encore connue sous le nom de NCR (neutron capture radiography) s'apparente à celle de l'autoradiographie, mais ici le détecteur est un minéral ou un film organique (le plus souvent nitrate de cellulose) irradié plaqué sur l'échantillon à analyser. Contrairement aux films photographiques, ces détecteurs ne sont pas sensibles aux rayons ß et [gamma].
