Paeonol is the characteristic and most important constituent of the root bark of P. suffruticosa. Paeonol and its glycosides have only been found in the root of P. suffruticosa. The glycosides of paeonol isolated from the root bark include paeonoside, paeonolide and apiopaeonoside.
