Dobb tente d'expliquer ce point, qui reste un mystère pour le mathématicien, en se référant à des faits simples, que l'on apprend en général à l'école : comme on le sait, il est tout aussi possible de construire un volume tridimensionnel correct sur le plan géométrique, ne serait-ce qu'un parallélépipède, possédant son équivalent dans la réalité sous forme de cube, que de former, de la même manière, un volume géométrique à quatre, cinq ou n dimensions (un objet à quatre dimensions est ce que l'on appelle un tesseract). Ces dimensions-là ne possèdent pas d'équivalents dans la réalité, et nous pouvons en acquérir la certitude puisque du fait de l'absence d'une quatrième dimension physique, il est impossible de construire un cube ayant vraiment quatre dimensions. 1, record 1, French, - tesseract
