A congenital hypoplastic anemia that occurs especially in early infancy; it is, in general, characterized by a moderate-to-severe macrocytic anemia, occasional neutropenia or thrombocytosis, a normocellular bone marrow with erythroid hypoplasia, and an increased risk of developing leukemia.
