Dyspnea in which expiration is prolonged because of the obstruction to the outflow of air and often accompanied by bulging of the interspaces. Expiratory dyspnea is associated primarily with obstruction in the bronchioles and smaller bronchi, as in asthma, bronchitis, and obstructive emphysema.
