Según esta ley, la diferencia entre acoso y hostigamiento sexual es muy sutil: el acoso se suscita en diferentes espacios, sea en escuelas, las familias, en el transporte público o en el trabajo y opera de manera horizontal entre personas de jerarquías homólogas o de parte de alguien que ocupa una posición menor a la de la persona acosada. El término de acoso se utiliza como sinónimo de hostigamiento. Acosar se refiere a una acción de persecución. Hostigamiento, del verbo hostigar significa también perseguir, molestar. Ambos términos coinciden en molestar a alguien, gramaticalmente el acoso sexual puede definirse como la acción de molestar y perseguir a alguien con motivos o intenciones sexuales. Estos anglicismos pueden sustituirse por el término "acoso", acompañado por los adjetivos escolar o laboral, e incluso, en otros casos, moral, psicológico, sexual [...] si se quiere especificar el ámbito de esa conducta y este no se deduce claramente del contexto.
