In 1964, Cabinet directed the establishment of an interdepartmental Military Assistance Committee (MAC) to examine requests from non-NATO countries for military assistance and to make recommendations to the Cabinet Committee on External Affairs and Defence ... In 1991, ... the Military Assistance Committee was then renamed the Military Assistance Steering Committee (MASC). Chaired by the Department of National Defence, the MASC is now composed of regional desk officers from DND's Director General of International Security Policy, representatives from Foreign Affairs Canada and from other departments as needed. The committee monitors the efficiency, the relevance, and the delivery of the Military Training Assistance Program (MTAP) to countries approved by the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs within allocated financial parameters.

En 1964, le Cabinet a demandé qu'on crée un comité interministériel d'assistance militaire qui serait chargé d'examiner les demandes d'aide militaire de pays n'appartenant pas à l'OTAN et de faire des recommandations au Comité du Cabinet chargé des affaires extérieures et de la défense. [...] En 1991, [...] le Comité d'assistance militaire a été rebaptisé Comité directeur d'aide militaire (CDAM). Présidé par un représentant du ministère de la Défense nationale, le CDAM comprend aujourd'hui des responsables régionaux de la Direction générale de la politique de sécurité internationale du MDN, des représentants d'Affaires étrangères Canada et, au besoin, des représentants d'autres ministères. Le comité surveille l'efficience, la pertinence et la conduite de l'instruction offerte dans le cadre du PAIM à des pays approuvés par le ministre de la Défense nationale et le ministre des Affaires étrangères, compte tenu des paramètres financiers prévus.
