AMPLITUDE LIMITER [2 records]

Record 1 2004-07-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications Facilities
  • Audio Technology
  • Electronic Devices
DEF

Any device which sets (or tends to set) some boundary value or values upon a signal.

OBS

In particular, a limiter may be a device which, for varying inputs below a certain instantaneous value gives a proportional output, but, for inputs whose instantaneous amplitude is higher than a predetermined value, gives a constant peak output.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Installations de télécommunications
  • Électroacoustique
  • Dispositifs électroniques
DEF

Record 2 1991-12-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
DEF

A type of frequency discriminator that converts a frequency-modulated signal into an audio signal. It requires a limiter to prevent random amplitude variations of the FM signal from appearing in its output.

CONT

An improved demodulator, known as a phase-shift or Foster-Seely discriminator... is sensitive to amplitude variations, or modulation, as well as to frequency modulation.... Therefore, a limiter should always precede the discriminator. The limiter removes amplitude variations from the FM signal.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télévision (Radioélectricité)
CONT
