The demand and supply of water are important determinants of canopy surface conductance and the rate of carbon diffusion into leaves. The energy balance determines the total energy available to drive photosynthesis and the temperature of plant tissues. Temperature affects rates of metabolic activities and the response of plant metabolism to temperature is important to determine their distribution and growth rate. 2, record 3, English, - energy%20balance

2, record 3, French, - bilan%20%C3%A9nerg%C3%A9tique

... in many plants water availability is one of the most important factors limiting photosynthesis under natural conditions. Because water is lost from leaves through the same pores(known as stomata) that carbon dioxide enters, the plant must balance carbon dioxide uptake against water loss. Under conditions of limited water availability, the stomata restrict water loss, which exerts a strong control on the net rate of photosynthesis by limiting the availability of carbon dioxide within the leaf. 1, record 4, English, - carbon%20dioxide%20uptake

1, record 4, French, - absorption%20de%20gaz%20carbonique

Turgor pressure is the force that is exerted on a plant’s cell wall by the water (in the cytoplasm) within the cell. The water presses against the cell wall from within, giving the plant cell rigidity, helping it keep its shape. Turgor pressure is the mechanism that changes the shape of the guard cells that open a plant’s stomata, pores located on the underside of leaves. 3, record 5, English, - turgor%20pressure

4, record 5, French, - pression%20de%20turgescence

Very High Gravity Fermentation(VHGF). The VHGF process under development at the University of Saskatchewan used a balance of nutrients, temperature control, oxygen and substrate improvement to achieve ethanol concentrations in the 15-24% range. This was a considerable improvement over the 12% normally seen in the fuel ethanol industry. The advantages include a reduction in water use, increased plant capacity, fewer microbe contaminants in the fermentation, and lower energy requirements during distillation.
