Kriging is a geostatistical interpolation technique that considers both the distance and the degree of variation between known data points when estimating values in unknown areas... Kriging is a multistep process. It starts with the exploratory statistical analysis of the data, variogram modeling, creation of the surface, and(optionally) exploration of a variance surface. The kriging method will be more successful when spatially correlated distance or directional bias is present in the data.

A survey of Statistics Canada, number 2702. This survey provides estimates of the number of passengers traveling on scheduled domestic commercial flights by directional origin and destination. The data are used by Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency for evaluating competition in the industry, developing policies for the exchange of air services with foreign countries, for airport planning and market research. The information is also used by individual carriers for evaluating market trends, measuring their own growth and planning new services, as well as by Statistics Canada as input to the Provincial accounts.

Crossbow [TM] Technology, Inc. ... introduced its new AHRS500GA solid-state attitude and heading reference system for general aviation ... Crossbow’s AHRS500GA is a strap-down subsystem that delivers heading measurements with dynamic accuracy of +/- 2.0 and static accuracy of +/- 1.5. Attitude accuracy is less than +/- 0.5 degrees (static) and +/- 2.0 degrees (dynamic). Range is +/- 180 degrees. The system features the industry’s highest performing sensors, including advanced MEMs accelerometers and rate gyros that provide much higher reliability than traditional spinning mass gyros.

Some gyrosyn compass are fitted with a dial switch. In one position, the complete system is in operation. In the other position, the flux valve is shut off and the instrument operates as a free directional gyro. This feature is for use in high polar latitudes or under any other circumstances where magnetic indications are unreliable.

Humphrey manufactures two types of directional gyroscopes; free directional and magnetic north slaved... Free directional gyros are not slaved in the yaw axis. They can be electrically "caged" to a known reference point and then uncaged to gather data.

Certains gyrocompas sont munis d'un bouton-interrupteur. Une position indique que le système complet est en opération. Une autre indique que la sonde magnétométrique est coupée et que l'instrument fonctionne comme un conservateur de cap autonome. Cette caractéristique est nécessaire pour l'utilisation de l'instrument aux hautes latitudes polaires ou dans toutes les circonstances où les indications magnétiques ne sont pas fiables.

conservateur de cap : Gyroscope qui indique précisément et rapidement les changements de cap d'un appareil, souvent appelé «gyroscope directionnel». Dans la mesure où le conservateur de cap fonctionne avec un gyroscope, il fournit une indication régulière et précise du cap ou des virages. Le compas, qui est quant à lui soumis à l'accélération ou à la décélération, aux dénivellations et autres erreurs de navigation, oscille souvent ou a un tour d'avance ou de retard. Toutefois, comme les gyroscopes sont affectés par la précession, le pilote doit périodiquement régler le conservateur de cap en fonction du compas (sauf si le conservateur de cap est électroniquement asservi au compas).
