Bomb Vessel : Developed by the French to battle the Barbary corsairs, these vessels used high trajectory mortars instead of conventional guns. The hull was strengthened to take the weight of one or more mortars and the foremast was completely omitted. Late 18th century bomb vessels would have had a full three-masted rig, and some were used for perilous polar expeditions since their sturdily built hulls would hold up well in the ice. 3, record 1, English, - bomb%20vessel

To penetrate a target, KE projectiles rely on velocity and not an explosive charge.... Historical research indicates that KE projectiles are responsible for forty percent of tanks knocked out in battle. Because KE projectiles are normally fired at very high velocity, they have a very flat trajectory(flight path), a decreased time of flight, and increased hit probability. The effectiveness of KE projectiles decreases at longer ranges, since the projectiles slow down during long flights. 4, record 2, English, - kinetic%20energy%20projectile

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 6, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

This new approach to autonomous control is based on the fact that non-linear dynamic systems can be controlled using analytically derived functions. The method hinges on defining an artificial potential field which represents the environment in which the vehicle is to manoeuvre. The potential field is configured to have a global minimum at the desired terminal state of the vehicle and has region of high potential which represents path constraints. This property enables active collision avoidance. Vehicle controls are then chosen such that the rate of descent of the potential field along the vehicle trajectory is always rendered negative definite. According to Lyapunov's theorem, this ensures that the vehicle converges to the desired terminal state without violating pre-defined path constraints. 2, record 8, English, - artificial%20potential%20field
