Thermal windows are special energy efficient windows that are designed to slow the passage of heat. Thermal windows have 2-3 panes, and many of them have non-toxic gasses between the panes. Others will have special glass that blocks UV [ulraviolet] heat from the sun. Together, the panes, gas, and special glass slow heat from passing.... In summer, thermal windows block hot outside air from entering your air conditioned home. In winter, they stop heated air from escaping. 3, record 1, English, - thermal%20window

1, record 1, French, - fen%C3%AAtre%20thermique

The preliminary mechanical processing of the dried [hemp] stalks involves some fairly vigorous handling of the raw material, including breaking, scutching and the separation of the line fibres from the tow and other by-products. The stronger, more solid fibre bundles keep their original lengths and parallelism. During breaking and scutching the weaker and shorter fibres(tow), especially those at the foot of the stalks, break away and are removed together with the hurds, dust, soil, etc.... The hurds are removed pneumatically and may be sold for use as natural fertiliser, for the heat insulation of buildings, as fuel or as animal litter... Combustion Override Split Production Horizontal Well Process(COSH). The main feature of this process, developed by the Alberta Research Council(ARC), is implementation of gravity drainage using a basal horizontal well in a combustion process. The configuration of different wells is critical to the operation of this process. A linear configuration of vertical air injection wells is drilled and completed in the upper portion of the reservoir. A horizontal oil production well is completed in the bottom of the reservoir, aligned and positioned beneath the vertical injection wells. The reservoir is prepared for ignition and combustion is initiated at each of the injection wells. A hot fluid-transmissive chamber is formed around each of the injection wells as combustion proceeds. Combustion gas communication is established with the gas production wells. Heated oil and water, produced by the combustion front in each hot chamber, drains under the effect of gravity and is brought to the surface through the horizontal production well. 3, record 39, English, - combustion%20override%20split%20production%20horizontal%20well%20process

2, record 39, French, - combustion%20in%20situ%20avec%20puits%20de%20production%20horizontal

Most vinyl roofing membranes are sealed using hot air, which can be compared to welding metal. The process joins two rolls of membranes at the overlap areas(without using another dissimilar material) to create one monolithic layer that covers the entire roof. The heat-welded, permanently fused seams on vinyl roofing membrane form a watertight seal, and their peel strength can be critical to the roof system's long-term performance against wind forces. 3, record 47, English, - monolithic%20layer

ROOF technology allows old roof membrane to be renewed without removal. ROOF technology is based upon a thermochemical treatment of bitumen roof coating. With heat applied to a section of roof coating bitumen and bituminiferous mastics start melting. Imbued with own bitumen, roof coating gains improved waterproofing capabilities. Today all hot air balloon burners have one thing in common. They use liquid propane as their fuel source. When using liquid propane the burner has to serve a dual purpose. First it must convert the liquid propane to a vapor, so it can be burnt at the orifices to produce the heat that makes the balloon fly. Achieving this function is where each balloon manufacturer differs in burner design. If you compare the shape of the Avian burner coils to other manufacturers, you’ll notice it has a larger circular radius with few 90 degree bends in its preheat coils. The reason we design our burner coil this way is to utilize a very basic principle of fuel flow. "The fewer the restrictions to flow, such as tight bends in tubing, in the complete burner system, the greater the pressure will be when it is released at the burner orifices, giving a higher BTU [British thermal unit] output. 2, record 49, French, - serpentin%20de%20br%C3%BBleur

Vapex (vapor extraction) is a relatively new process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen that involves the injection of a vaporized solvent to reduce the viscosity of the oil. The diluted oil is then allowed to drain into a production well under the influence of gravity. It is a potentially economic process that can be applied to reservoirs that are not suitable for thermal recovery method. In addition, the process has the potential to sequester greenhouse gases, and is capable of in situ upgrading of heavy oil. 3, record 52, English, - vapour%20extraction

Air washers make use of water sprays or cooling coils for evaporative and sensible cooling of mine air. Their use has largely been limited to shallow coal mines in the United States where it is desirable to reduce the dry-bulb temperature of the intake air during the hot summer months to prevent slaking of the roof due to excessive expansion. An air washer is essentially a heat exchanger and is similar to the type of unit employed for heat transfer with refrigeration or evaporative cooling systems. 3, record 56, English, - air%20washer

The XB-25E was a standard production modified for anti-icing research. The carburetor air intake duct was faired internally into the top of the cowling and an anti-icing air intake was mounted at the bottom. Each row of cylinders exhausted through a separate exchanger, one ported outboard and one inboard of each nacelle. Ram air from the lower cowling duct was routed underneath the engine to a split duct, each side of which was directed to one of the heat exchangers. Air admitted to these heat exchangers was directed through a series of gates that allowed diversion of heated air either to the anti-icing system or out the exhaust. A complex system of ducting led the hot air to the outer wing leading edges and also into the fuselage and to the leading edges of the tail. It was intended that the temperature of the hot air would be sufficiently high that ice on the wing leading edges surfaces would be vaporized rather than melted, which would have prevented water from flowing aft and then freezing again on flaps and ailerons. 1, record 61, English, - anti%2Dicing%20air%20intake

Mushroom clouds are formed by many sorts of large explosions under earth gravity, though they are best known for their appearance after nuclear detonations.... While it rises, air is drawn into it and upwards(similar to the updraft of a chimney), producing strong air currents known as "afterwinds", while inside the head of the cloud the hot gases rotate in a toroid shape. When the detonation itself is low enough, these afterwinds will draw in dirt and debris from the ground below to form the stem of the mushroom cloud. 2, record 70, English, - stem

The rotary dryer, sometimes known as a rotary kiln, is a type of industrial dryer employed to reduce or minimize the moisture content of the material it is handling by bringing it into direct contact with heated gas. The dryer is made up of a large, rotating cylindrical tube, usually supported by concrete columns or steel beams. The dryer slopes slightly so that the discharge end is lower than the material feed end in order to convey the material through the dryer under gravity. Material to be dried enters the higher end of the dryer, and as the dryer rotates, the material is lifted up by a series of internal fins lining the inner wall of the dryer. When the material gets high enough to roll back off the fins, it falls back down to the bottom of the dryer, passing through the hot air stream as it falls. 1, record 73, English, - rotary%20kiln

A column drier is equipped with one or more unobstructed columns through which grain falls by gravity. The columns are about 30 centimetres apart and are sheathed on either side by perforated screens or wire mesh which retain the grain but permit passage of air. On one side of each column, space is allowed for air entry and on the other side, air is discharged. Hot air passes across the column at the top of the drier, drying grain as it falls. In a similar manner, cool air passes across the bottom of the column to cool the grain. Some energy conservation has been achieved by recirculating part of the "spent" hot air which has passed through the heating section. 1, record 77, English, - column%20drier

Raw sugar is light brown and slightly sticky because the crystals have a thin film of molasses clinging to them. Refining removes this film and produces white crystals of sugar. First the raw sugar is rinsed of its brownish film. Then the crystals are dissolved in water and the liquid is filtered to remove impurities. The sugar is then crystallized, and the crystals are separated from the liquid by centrifuges and dried in hot air. The liquid must be centrifuged several times. Other methods of refining involve the use of milk of lime, carbon dioxide, and repeated boiling. The refined crystals are classified and stored in bins to be packaged or sent to market. 2, record 78, English, - refining

This machine usually consists of two small washing or scouring tanks, drying cylinders, and a straightening gill-box. It is made in several forms, for each type certain constructional advantages or advantages for the material treated being claimed. It is employed either before or after combing to thoroughly clean worsted slivers or "tops, "for not only does the wool become sullied in passing through the several preparing machines, but impurities which cannot be extracted in the scouring bowls have revealed themselves and may here be conveniently got rid of. The process of "blueing" to give a white appearance to the slivers or tops is frequently resorted to, and is usually affected on the backwasher. The latest innovation in this machine is the adoption of hot air drying in place of cylinder drying. 3, record 80, English, - backwasher

Hot-wire anemometer... is an important device used principally in research on air turbulence and boundary layers. There are two types, known as constant-voltage and constant-temperature. The cooling of an electrically heated fine wire placed in a gas stream which alters wire resistance depends on the fluid velocity. With the constant-voltage type, as soon as the gas starts flowing, the hot wire cools off, the voltage across a Wheatstone bridge connected to the wire is kept constant, and the calibrated galvanometer shows a reading related to the velocity. 5, record 84, English, - hot%2Dwire%20anemometer

It occurs between November and April, freshening during the afternoon and decreasing at night. It is a cold air outbreak associated with the southward movement of a cold anticyclone. It is usually preceded by a warm and cloudy or rainy spell with southerly winds. The norther comes as a rushing blast and brings a sudden drop of temperature of as much as 25°F in one hour or 50°F in three hours in winter. 2) The California norther is a strong, very dry, dusty, northerly wind that blows in late spring, summer, and early fall in the valley of California or on the West Coast when pressure is high over the mountains to the north. It lasts from one to four days. The dryness is due to adiabatic warming during descent. In summer it is very hot. 3) The Portuguese norther is the beginning of the trade wind west of Portugal. 4) Norther is used for a strong north wind on the coast of Chile that blows occasionally in summer. 5) In southeast Australia, a hot dry wind from the desert is called a norther. 3, record 88, English, - norther

There are two sub-types : pure suspension and cyclonic. Pure suspension units are true "burners" in that a stable open flame(similar to a gas or oil burner flame) is created by air jets that are usually mounted in the wall of the combustor or boiler. Cyclonic suspension units have a refractory cylindrical combustion chamber into which the fuel particles and air are introduced tangentially. The long cyclonic gas circulation keeps the fuel circulating in the chamber, resulting in complete combustion of the fuel, but all ash normally exits with the hot exhaust gases. Fuel is fed to both types of these burners by pneumatic feeders with the fuel air stream forming the primary air supply. 2, record 91, English, - suspension%20burner

1, record 91, French, - chaudi%C3%A8re%20%C3%A0%20lit%20en%20suspension

Calender-bonded fabric is produced using hot calender rolls that press fibers together at selected points(much like film heat sealing) and create patterns of tiny dots of fused fibers that hold the web together. Oven-bonded fabric is produced when the fibers are fused together with hot air wherever they touch one another. Calender-bonded fabric is flat and cloth-like. The air comes from the Sahara(as a desert wind) and is dry and dusty, but the term is not used in North Africa, where it is called chom(hot) or arifi(thirsty). In crossing the Mediterranean the sirocco picks up much moisture because of its high temperature, and reaches Malta, Sicily, and southern Italy as a very enervating, hot, humid wind. As it travels northward, it causes fog and rain. In some parts of the Mediterranean region the word may be used for any warm southerly wind, often of foehn type. In the extreme southwest of Greece a warm foehn crossing the coastal mountains is named sirocco di levante. There are a number of local variants of the spelling such as xaroco(Portuguese), jaloque or xaloque(Spanish), xaloc or xaloch(Catalonian). In the Rhône delta the warm rainy southeast sirocco is called eissero. On Zakynthos Island it is called lampaditsa. 3, record 97, English, - sirocco

A pool of cold air can also become ’detached’ at lower latitudes, i. e. away from the mid-latitude westerly zone, and drift slowly over relatively warmer seas,(e. g. the Mediterranean), and lead to intense convective development, often taking on marked cyclonic characteristics through the troposphere, and giving rise to locally severe conditions due to heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms and squally winds. Remnants of these types of cold pool will sometimes drift polewards in summer and bring outbreaks of severe convective activity to mid-latitude regions, as these features will destabilise hot/humid air masses. 2, record 99, English, - cold%20air%20pool

3, record 99, French, - goutte%20d%27air%20froid
