Ski slopestyle makes its Olympic debut in 2014. Slopestyle athletes make their way down, through and over a course comprised of a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features — scoring points for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks. The discipline has its roots in action sports like skateboarding and BMX biking and has very successfully crossed over into the snow sports worlds of skiing and snowboard. The jumper enters a crouched(or tuck) position down an inrun, springs outward and upward upon takeoff, leans forward throughout flight to maintain lift, bends the hips and knees and places one foot in front of the other into a telemark position for landing, and then straightens up and slows down throughout the outrun. The range of possible landing positions is marked by three points(norm, table, and K, or critical) on the landing hill. The Rutschblock test(shear block) and it's cousin the Rutschkiel test... have rapidly become the standard snowpit test of choice for avalanche professional who do a lot of snowpits... First, on a slope of at least 30 degrees, isolate a block of snow about a ski length across, and a ski pole length up the slope(2 meters wide by 1. 5 meters upslope). If you use a snow saw which mounts on the end of an avalanche probe ski pole you can cut the block in under a minute...
