There are two broad types of agricultural taxation in developing countries, namely explicit and implicit taxes. Explicit taxes involve charges on land, taxes on inputs such as water, fertilizer, etc., and taxes on output. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as : synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because :(i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive;(ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners;(iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and(iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In addition, many users for these materials habitually designate them with trade names, which adds to the terminology confusion. Geomembranes should not be confused with other similar membranes used for such applications as single-ply roofing, floating covers and air supported roof. Also, geomembranes should not be confused with geotextiles [which are permeable by construction].

Actis est une société d'investissement privée britannique en activité sur les marchés émergents. L'ACDI et Commerce international Canada se sont chargés de la négociation des modalités du FICA, qui sera administré de façon indépendante par Actis et Cordiant. Le FICA a été lancé officiellement à Toronto le lundi 25 avril 2005, par la ministre de la Coopération internationale, Mme Aileen Carroll, et par le ministre du Commerce international, M. Jim Peterson, à l'occasion de la conférence du Conseil canadien pour l'Afrique qui s'est tenue sous le thème Débloquer des fonds pour réaliser des projets d'infrastructure en Afrique.

Despite the fact that in real terms the U. S. current account deficit has improved significantly and the Japanese and German trade surpluses have fallen, the continued deterioration in the U. S. nominal current account balance has been a source of disappointment and confusion to markets. To some extent, the lack of progress in nominal terms was expected, due to the so-called "J-curve" phenomenon, whereby the effect of a depreciation in the U. S. dollar worsens the U. S. terms of trade such that it initially offsets the improving net flow of goods and services in volume terms. But the "J-curve" effect is short term and transitional in nature, and it cannot account entirely for the slow adjustment of the U. S. current account imbalance.
