Record 2 2011-11-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Rubber
DEF

An elastomer consisting of a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a diene, e. g. dicyclopentadiene.

OBS

EPDM : The preferred systematic abbreviation for what is commonly designated EPT. The use of EPR [ethylene-propylene rubber] for a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and the use of EPT for a terpolymer of these monomers with a small amount of a diene to provide double bonds is common but is not recommended.

OBS

ethylene-propylene-diene monomer; ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer; EPDM : terms and abbreviation officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee(New Brunswick).

Key term(s)
  • ethylene propylene diene monomer

French

Domaine(s)
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
  • Caoutchouc
CONT

[...] l'E.P.D.M.

Key term(s)
  • terpolymère d'éthylène et de propylène

CONT

ELASTO MFL.03 TRI is a waterproofing membrane manufactured by combining a polyester fabric with SBS [styrene-butadiene-styrene] modified bitumen and a root repelling agent.

PHR

Injected, integral root repellent.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Plastic Materials
DEF

A polymer derived from one species of monomer. [Definition standardized by ISO.]

CONT

Block copolymers are organic polymers that are made up of two or more different monomer types, which are segregated into groups or blocks. When two mono-polymers are physically mixed together they will have a tendency to phase separate on a macroscopic scale. This is caused by the molecules’ drive toward the lowest possible interaction energy, which occurs when the individual polymer molecules are coagulated with other molecules of the same polymeric makeup.

OBS

The product of polymerization of one monomer is called a homopolymer, monopolymer or simply a polymer. When two monomers are polymerized simultaneously the product is called a copolymer. The term terpolymer is sometimes used for polymerization products of three monomers.

OBS

homopolymer: term standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
  • Matières plastiques
DEF

Polymère provenant d'une seule espèce de monomère. [Définition normalisée par l'ISO.]

OBS

Record 5 1997-07-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastic Materials
CONT

Styrene maleic anhydride(SMA) thermoplastics are available as copolymers and terpolymer alloys. The copolymer form is the product of mass copolymerization of styrene and maleic anhydride; rubber impact modifier may be incorporated. The terpolymer alloys incorporate acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene type components. All grades are rated as impact resistant.

Record 6 1994-01-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Packaging in Plastic
DEF

A biaxially oriented polypropylene film.

CONT

The basic raw materials for OPP films are four different polypropylene-rich resins : homopolymer, copolymer, terpolymer, and modified resins.... When a film is biaxially oriented, it is mechanically stretched in directions which are at right angles to each other. By doing this, the film's molecules are aligned in the cross(transverse) machine direction(XD) as well as in the machine direction(MD).

OBS

[polypropylène] - Applications essentielles [...] Films d'aspect bi-orienté dit «OPP» pour produits alimentaires [...] suremballage de paquets de cigarettes, enveloppage de fleurs [...]
