Water safety at the community level involves interventions at the source of the water supply or in the distribution system, including physically removing pathogens(i. e., through filtration, adsorption, sedimentation, or other methods) ;chemically treating the water, commonly with chlorine, to kill or deactivate pathogens; and disinfecting water using heat(i. e., boiling or pasteurization) or ultraviolet radiation(i. e., sun or artificial lamp). Alternatively, protected sources of water can be created, such as springs, wells, and boreholes, which are generally free from contaminants. As for sanitation, improved and unimproved water facilities have been defined based on their risk of contamination. 2, record 1, English, - water%20safety

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A particle which had its surface fully covered by collector would find it difficult... to cling to an air-water interface completely packed with frother molecules. The incompleteness of adsorption of the contacting phases is an important factor in attachment. Mineralizing contact may result from collision between bubble and particle, from precipitation of gas from water or through a mixed process in which precipitation initiates contact. Tests... showed that attachment on collision with a coursing bubble increases with the density of the particle concerned, which by its greater mass is better able to break through the slipstream or energy barrier surrounding the bubble. Other research supports this by showing how a minute bubble, such as might result from precipitation, initiates bubble attachment or the build-up of a buoyant system.... The available gas also influences the kinetics of attachment. 6, record 3, English, - adhesion

In flotation technology activation is the development on the surface of a designated mineral of selective reaction, usually attraction into the air-water interface. This renders the activated particle more eager to be drawn into a coursing bubble, rise and persist as part of a selectively mineralised froth. To induce such changes reagents called "activators" are used. Other chemicals, used to work to the opposite purpose are called "wetting agents" or "depressants." Both types are surface-active agents or surfactants, capable of influencing conditions in the air-water-solid triphase. 7, record 7, English, - surface%20active%20agent

The simplest form of engineered trench, or shallow land burial, relies mainly on the properties of the excavated overburden and the geohydrologic properties of the site for containment. The intent is to ensure that the travel time of radionuclides from the waste to the human environment via groundwater is long compared to the nuclide half lives. Travel time is long because of low hydraulic gradients, soils of low water permeability and high contaminant adsorption, and lengthy pathways across exclusion zones. 4, record 10, English, - trench

Illustration of a shallow land burial facility (engineered trench). ... Figure 9 outlines the engineered trench option. In this option, the major characteristics are that: . wastes are placed below grade (in suitable hydrogeological conditions) in trenches having a specially prepared bottom that incorporates a drainage system; . there is an earthen cover over the wastes that easily can incorporate additional engineered barriers; . structural stability is not provided by the disposal facility; and . for structural stability, voids between the waste containers are filled with sans or earthen materials - bulk wastes may be compacted. 5, record 10, English, - trench
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 3 CONT
Shallow-land burial in trenches was the original low-level waste disposal practice at the beginning of the nuclear era. The method originally consisted in emplacing the wastes in trenches dug into the ground at depths ranging from 3 to 6 m and covering the emplaced wastes with about 1 m of soil. 1, record 10, English, - trench

Burial trenches without additional engineered barriers can be used provided that radionuclides will migrate into groundwater beneath the site at an acceptable rate. 1, record 10, English, - trench

Process of treatment provides rapid sorption and adsorption of pollutants working in high load regime. After sludge moves for the regeneration in the special unit. Sludge separation is done in the clarifier equipped with thin film modules. Portion of sludge circulates between biosorber and sludge blanket into clarifier. Mostly sludge with the special equipment is removed from clarifier and pumped to regenerator. Biosorber and regenerator is equipped with plastic media. Fixed biocenosis is characterised by lot of microorganisms with the predator and bacteriofaque type of feeding(much more than in suspended sludge)... Mineralizator. Vertical cylinder-shaped reservoir equipped with aerators, plastic media thin film modules, pumps, electric equipment and automation. Reservoir is divided by semi-submersed partition walls forming clarifier. Mineralization of sludge takes place in aerobic conditions. Excessive sludge supply to mineralizator is continuous due to clarifier. Sludge water by gravity enters reactor. Due to plastic media using in the sludge mineralization trophic conditions for upper level of food pyramid is completed. Thus considerable part(90-95%) of excessive sludge is reduced due to complete trophic relations. Mineralized sludge mainly consists of zooglea, protozoa, metazoa and bacteriophagus which are perfect food for fishes fry. If sludge has not accumulated toxic substances, it can be discharged into any water bodies. 1, record 19, English, - mineralized%20sludge

Dynamic adsorption. The most common mode of adsorptive separation process employs a fixed bed, cyclic operation. As the wet process stream enters the fresh molecular-sieve bed, the water vapor is adsorbed in a finite length of bed called a mass-transfer zone(MTZ), the bed length through which the concentration of the adsorbate is reduced from essentially inlet to outlet conditions. As wet gas continues to flow, the bed may be divided into three distinct zones; the dynamic equilibrium zone with inlet gas, the MTZ, and the remaining active zone. In most molecular-adsorption systems, the MTZ becomes stabilized because of its favorable isotherm and moves at a constant speed. The bed is exhausted when the leading edge of the MTZ reaches the outlet end of the bed. High effective capacity results from high dynamic equilibrium capacity and a short MTZ. 1, record 20, English, - dynamic%20adsorption

Color removal. The brown color of pulp mill effluents originates with the wood handling, chemical pulping and bleaching operations, and is due to the presence of tannin and lignin derivatives.... Coagulation processes are now preferentially applied to wastewaters following secondary treatment because of more complete color removal. It has also been found that the biological process itself causes the formation of additional color. The rapid infiltration process appears to be a good choice for color removal at mill sites with suitable topography and subsoil characteristics. In this method, the wastewater is percolated through porous subsoil strata before reaching the receiving water. The color is removed by adsorption and precipitation onto soil particles. Because the soil strata becomes rather rapidly saturated, it is necessary to operate a number of basins intermittently, allowing time between dosages for regeneration of the adsorbing surfaces. 1, record 21, English, - rapid%20infiltration%20process

1, record 22, English, - contaminant%20adsorption

Preparation of bleach chemicals. All conventional bleaching chemicals can be produced from air, water and brine(NaCl solution) utilizing varying amounts of energy. Since the raw materials are cheap, it follows that manufacturing costs are mainly a function of how much energy is expended. Oxygen. Two systems are utilized for oxygen generation : cryogenic air separation and absorption-based separation.... The adsorption-based oxygen plant yields a gas product and is suitable only for onsite generation.... adsorption systems separate air at ambient temperatures using molecular sieve adsorbents. The adsorbent picks up nitrogen and other impurities at the system feed pressure, while the product oxygen passes straight through the bed. After the bed is saturated with nitrogen, it is regenerated by lowering the pressure to release the adsorbed components. Adsorption processes are cyclical, and multiple beds are used to maintain continuous oxygen production. 1, record 23, English, - adsorption%2Dbased%20separation
