ABREAST TYPE PARLOUR [1 record]

English

Subject field(s)
  • Milking Equipment (Agriculture)
DEF

A raised milking area or platform where the cow stands perpendicular to the operator and milking units are attached between the rear legs.

OBS

Cows stand side-by-side and exit forwards through individual gates into an internal corridor. The cows are usually stepped up onto platforms 355 to 450 mm high, to reduce bending by the operators. Suitable for herds of 10 to 60 cows ... This type of milking parlour is becoming less popular, in view of its many disadvantages and on account of the move to post-feeding. Small herring-bone or tandem-side-gate milking parlours are a better proposition.

CONT
