Au voisinage de l'étoile HDE 226 868, dans la constellation du Cygne, se trouve une radiosource que l'on a baptisé Cygnus X-1 et qui émet un flux intense de rayons X. L'émission s'expliquerait par la présence d'un trou noir en rotation. Celui-ci aspirerait la matière gazeuse de l'étoile qui s'enroulerait autour du trou noir, formant un disque d'accrétion dépassant 10 millions de degrés près de l'horizon, et permettant l'émission de rayonnement X.
