Ensemble d'émetteurs et de récepteurs acoustiques qui assure le positionnement d'un navire ou d'un engin à partir du temps de propagation d'ondes sonores.

OBS

La base longue [est un] système de repérage acoustique, composé de balises répondeuses disposées sur le fond à des distances de l'ordre de quelques kilomètres. La base courte [est un] système identique à la base longue mais avec une portée inférieure qui favorise la précision de la localisation. La base ultracourte [est un] système analogue à la base courte, mais dans lequel les éléments acoustiques portés par le navire sont regroupés sur une aire réduite afin de faciliter l'utilisation.
