In the first organotin paints, the organotin biocide was freely associated in the binder of soluble matrix and contact leaching paint types but the organotin copolymer provided both the biocide and the acrylic binder for the paint.

Les peintures auto-polissantes développées actuellement sont fabriquées à partir de SPC (self polishing copolymers). Il s'agit de mélanges de méthylméthacrylate de tributylétain. La lixiviation est provoquée par une réaction d'hydrolyse, le composé greffé sur le liant acrylique se libère lentement par hydrolyse dans l'eau.
