Les résultats des recherches en laboratoire sur les possibilités d'utilisation des algues pour l'élimination des éléments nutritifs des eaux usées se sont montrés positifs; c'est ce qu'on appelle "les algues activées" (AFEE, Le lagunage, 1976, p. 8).
