DEF

A one-off or very short term exposure to a substance, usually less than 24 hours.

Advice should be provided on the circumstances under which a "total population approach" versus "consumers only approach" should be used in the probabilistic modelling of acute exposure to pesticide residues.

Record 3 - external organization data 2005-05-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
  • Toxicology
  • Biochemistry
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
DEF

A single exposure to a substance or multiple exposures occurring within a short time, usually 24 hours or less.

CONT

Experimental exposure may be acute - that is, an exposure in which the dose is delivered in a single event and absorption is rapid. Although this type of exposure is usually short, an acute exposure may produce chronic effects. In contrast, there is a need to assess effects under chronic exposure conditions in which the dose is delivered at some frequency (daily or weekly usually) over a period of time.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Études et analyses environnementales
  • Toxicologie
  • Biochimie
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
DEF

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Estudios y análisis del medio ambiente
  • Toxicología
  • Bioquímica
  • Compartimiento - Comisión Canadiense de Seguridad Nuclear
