[Techniques de compression du son] Les autres types de codage faisant appel aux caractéristiques physioacoustiques de l'oreille humaine sont dits adaptatifs. Le facteur de compression est dépendant du type de signal. Il n'existe pas de norme universelle. Plusieurs procédés sont proposés par les industriels. MUSICAM est l'un d'entre eux. Mis au point par l'IRT (Institut für Rundfunk Technik), le CCETT et Philips, il est basé sur une division du spectre audio en 30 sous-bandes, chacune étant analysée par rapport au seuil de masquage. MUSICAM est utilisé pour la compression des signaux audio dans la norme de compression MPEG.
