It should be emphasized that temporary changes of climate due to increasing aerosol concentrations in the stratosphere from volcanic eruptions must be well understood in order to distinguish between these and possible changes due to anthropogenic emissions of both gases and aerosols.

Les particules météoritiques sont animées d'une vitesse radiale géocentrique d'environ 106 cm/s. Après l'entrée dans l'atmosphère, cette vitesse est réduite par la résistance de l'air. À 70 km d'altitude, elle est d'environ 10 à 100 cm/s. À cette décélération correspond une augmentation de la concentration; à partir de 40 km d'altitude la concentration de l'aérosol d'origine extra-terrestre atteint 10moins 12 g/cm³. La vitesse des particules diminuant encore, elles finissent par se sédimenter au sol.
